AMC's first board meeting will be held in ten days to elect mayor, deputy mayor for new term

Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s first board meeting for the new term is likely to be scheduled in ten days. During the meeting, the mayor and deputy mayor will also be elected. With the results coming for AMC polls on Tuesday, there is a strong possibility that the BJP will gain power in Ahmedabad for the fifth consecutive time.

 The mayor for the first two and a half years of the new term will be from the OBC category, according to the rotation cycle. The names of former Standing Committee Chairman Hitesh Barot and former AMTS Chairman Dharmashi Desai are the strong contenders for the post of mayor. 

Following the rotation, a woman will be elected to the post of deputy mayor. In the race to become Deputy Mayor, BJP's Anusya Patel from Asarwa ward and Doctor Chandniben Patel from Lambha ward are at the forefront.

Municipal secretary Arun Pandya said that generally to arrange a meeting, fifteen days is taken into consideration. However, it is possible to call it as early as possible, so that it can be called within ten days of the declaration of the results. Thus, the possibility of the first board meeting for the new term of the municipal corporation from 2026 to 2031 is expected to be held around May 13.

All 192 candidates who are declared winners in the municipal corporation elections will have to obtain a certificate from the collector's office regarding the ward from which they won the election and submit it to the municipal secretary.
