AMA backs probe into NEET-UG 2026 irregularities, calls for strict action

The Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) has backed the Government of India and the National Testing Agency (NTA)’s decision to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3 and conduct a re-examination following allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities.

The association said the decision, while likely to cause “mental stress, disappointment and inconvenience” to lakhs of students and parents, was necessary to safeguard the credibility, transparency and merit-based nature of medical admissions.

Welcoming the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the matter, the AMA called for strict and exemplary action against individuals or organised networks found responsible for malpractice.

It also noted the clarification issued by the NTA that no fresh registration would be required for the re-examination and that no additional fees would be charged from candidates.

The association appealed to students and parents to remain calm, avoid rumours and rely only on official communications issued by the NTA and government authorities.

The incident underlined the urgent need to strengthen India’s competitive examination system, making it more secure, technology-driven, transparent and resistant to tampering in order to protect students’ futures and maintain public trust, the AMA added.
