A 25-year-old intern doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rajkot, was found dead near railway tracks on Saturday morning in what police suspect to be a case of suicide, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Ratankumar Mohanlal Meghwal, a resident of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. According to police, Meghwal’s body was discovered early in the morning by local residents and railway authorities, who alerted the Rajkot City Police at around 5 am.

Officials said a bag belonging to the deceased was found near the tracks. Inside the bag, police recovered a suicide note along with his laptop and mobile phone. The contents of the note are being examined as part of the investigation.

The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination, and Meghwal’s family members in Rajasthan were informed about the incident.

Police have registered an Accidental Death (AD) report at the Gandhigram police station and have initiated further inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death.

Investigators said statements of colleagues and acquaintances are likely to be recorded as part of the probe to ascertain the events preceding the incident. Further details are awaited pending the post-mortem report and examination of the materials recovered from the scene.
