A comprehensive system integrating water, roads, and drainage facilities will be established by the authorities.The project has received approval from the World Bank, the department of economic affairs of the central government, and the Urban development and housing department.The Gujarat Resilient Cities Project proposed to undertake drainage infrastructure works in the AMC areas and had been sent to the central government for approval.A meeting was held among officials from the drainage, sewage treatment plant (STP), and governance departments, during which the drainage infrastructure works costing ₹3,000 cr were finalised. GKW Consultancy has been appointed as the project management consultant.What works will be undertaken for drainage infrastructure?A new STP with a capacity to treat 375 million litres per day (MLD) will be constructed, costing more than ₹778 cr, as per the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) norms.The current STP with a capacity of 180 MLD in Pirana will be upgraded to meet NGT norms, and a new plant with a capacity of 424 MLD will be built.The feasibility report and detailed project report have been approved by the World Bank, and the tender process has begun.A new 240 MLD plant is designated to be established, in accordance with the NGT norms, in place of the existing plant.However, since even the lowest-one had high prices, new tenders have been called for. The bidders also proposed to demolish the existing structure.
