Ahmedabad struggles with basic amenities despite huge AMC budget

Despite a mammoth outlay of ₹12 cr for the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) budget, Amdavadis registered a total of 7.40 complaints from the citizens regarding water, drainage, roads, and other primary services.
The maximum number of complaints in the years 2023–2024 was 1.41 lakh from the north zone and 1.35 lakh from the central zone.
Ahmedabad’s north zone includes areas like Sardarnagar, Nobalnagar, Naroda, Kubernagar, Meghaninagar, Asarva, Shahibaug, Naroda Road, Thakkarbapanagar, Saraspur, Nava Naroda, etc.
Most complaints of engineering dept
Among all the departments of the AMC, the complaints of the engineering department, such as overflowing drains and polluted water, have remained the highest.
Responding to a question, the AMC informed that as of Mar 15, 2024, 1096 complaints were pending in the central zone.
During the years 2023–2024, authorities received 1,35,398 complaints across six wards of the central zone of the city.
A total of 99,285 complaints were related to the engineering department of AMC.
In the Saraspur and Rakhiyal wards, a total of 25,743 complaints were registered related to the engineering department, 13,445 in Navrangpura, and 13,214 in the stadium ward.
