60 Ahmedabad families plan to sue Boeing over Air India crash, US law firm to represent kin
After over four months since the horrific airplane crash that killed 230 passengers and 12 crew members of AI171 flight on June 12, bereaved families in Ahmedabad have decided to file a case against Boeing.
Families of around 60 victims have decided to take Boeing, the American manufacturing company of the 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft that flew the AI171, to court. They are said to have approached US-based Beasley Allen law firm, and the well-known aviation lawyer Mike Andrews is expected to take up their case.
Trupti Soni, a resident of Ahmedabad who lost three family members in the plane crash, said, “The families of victims should be included in the investigation process; we fear the probe is not unbiased.”
“We feel the investigation is messy and not streamlined. The released report asks questions rather than answering them. The investigating agencies are also providing ‘selective’ information,” said Soni.
Notably, in July, a British and an American family reportedly showed interest in suing the Boeing firm.
The London-bound Air India flight AI171 crashed into a medical college hostel just seconds after take-off from the Ahmedabad airport on June 12. As many as 241 people on board the plane and 19 on the ground were killed in the tragic crash. One passenger had miraculously survived the deadly crash.
