AMC inspects coaching centres for fire safety, 17 issued notices, 1 sealed

Following the recent fire incident at a coaching centre in Lucknow, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a fire safety inspection drive across coaching classes and educational institutions in the city, similar to the checks being carried out at hotels and restaurants.

During inspections conducted on Wednesday, the AMC Fire and Emergency Services Department issued notices to 17 coaching centres and educational institutions for various fire safety violations, while one institute was sealed for operating with an expired fire safety certificate.

The inspection drive covered educational institutions located in areas including Vastral, Thaltej, Satellite, Mansi Circle, Navrangpura and Naranpura.

Officials sealed Navkar Digital Institute after finding that its fire safety certificate had expired.

The 17 institutions that received notices were found lacking in one or more fire safety requirements, including:

Fire extinguishers

Emergency exits

Electrical safety measures

Clear evacuation and access routes

Authorities have directed the institutions to rectify the deficiencies within the stipulated timeframe, failing which further action, including sealing, may be taken.
