Afghan consul visits Gujarat University after clashes with foreign students

After the Gambian authorities paid a visit to the Gujarat University over the Mar 17 clashes involving foreign students, the Consul General of Afghanistan in Mumbai, Zakia Wardak, also met with students and discussed the recent incident with concerned authorities.
She also met with the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Neerja Gupta, the regional director of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Surender Kumar, and the Police Commissioner, Gyanendrasingh Malik.

Wardak also paid her visit to the NRI (non-resident Indian) hostel, where the foreign students have been shifted from the block.
The Consul General assured the students of their safety and security and regarded India as “a friend of Afghanistan.” She added that the university is a second home for Afghan students and that they have been studying there for many years.
The Consul General also said that the attacks on foreign students did not start from the Afghan students’ side. She urged students to respect each other’s religion and culture and said that “the most important thing is humanity.”.
Commissioner Malik assured that the police are investigating the attacks on foreign students and that they will take strict action against the perpetrators.
