Accused shot in leg while attempting to flee during crime reconstruction in Gandhinagar

In a shocking case involving the alleged rape of a five-year-old girl in the Indira Nagar slum area of Sector 24, Gandhinagar, the accused attempted to escape on Friday. Police fired in retaliation, hitting the accused in the leg.
According to information, during the reconstruction of the crime, the accused tried to take advantage of the situation and flee. In response, the Sector 21 Police Inspector fired three rounds, one of which struck the accused in the leg. The accused has been admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred on December 15, when the five-year-old girl, who lives in the Indira Nagar slum area, woke up at night and stepped out to relieve herself. A man hiding in the darkness grabbed the child and sexually assaulted her. After committing the crime, the accused dropped the child near her home and fled.
Traumatised, the child reached her grandmother crying but was unable to explain the incident due to fear. She reportedly only said that a “ghost had come” and then went to sleep, masking the severity of the crime.
As per sources, the accused, Ramsingh, is a native of Bihar and was working at a dairy in Sector 25 GIDC. He allegedly roamed the Indira Nagar slum area at night with the intent to commit the crime. Based on technical surveillance and CCTV footage, police arrested him. He was taken to the spot for reconstruction when he attempted to flee, prompting police firing.
In the past 10 days, police have opened fire on accused in multiple serious cases.
Atkot rape case (December 11):
In Jasdan taluka of Rajkot district, the accused in the rape of a six-year-old girl tried to flee and attack police during arrest. Police fired in self-defence, injuring him in the leg. One police personnel was also injured during the operation.
Surat Godadara double murder case (December 16):
Police fired at absconding bootlegger Shiva Takla, the main accused in the Godadara double murder case. The accused allegedly attacked police during the operation, following which police fired in self-defence, injuring him in the right leg. The case relates to the kidnapping and brutal assault of three youths over a ₹20,000 dispute, in which two youths, Soeb Sheikh and Nazim, were killed.
