Accused in ₹22 cr fake govt office scam dies during treatment in Chhotaudepur

Sandeep Rajput, the main accused in the ₹22 cr scam of opening five fake irrigation department offices in Chhotaudepur’s Bodeli and cheating the government, died on May 15.

According to the details, Rajput was locked up in the Chhotaudepur sub-jail. He suddenly fell ill on May 15 and was rushed to the district’s general hospital by the police, but died during treatment.

In this sensational state-wide scam, Rajput opened five fake offices in Bodeli and obtained hefty government grants.

Rajput was one of the first arrests made by the police in this case on Oct 27, 2023, in Vadodara. He was held along with Abu Bakr Saiyed, who is considered the mastermind of the scam.

Later, 22 other perpetrators in total were also subsequently nabbed in this case.

Over time, a similar scam was unearthed in Dahod, where Rajput and his accomplices had allegedly set up six different government offices in Jhalod and Dabhoi.
