Gujarat’s cabinet minister Mulu Bera was put on a spot after he was confronted by an audience member over civic issues while delivering a speech at an inauguration ceremony in Surendranagar.
Bera was addressing a crowd in the city’s Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Town Hall in a virtual inauguration ceremony. A member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) interrupted his address and called on the minister to address the city's drinking water problems.
The AAP member alleged that this issue has been prevalent in the Sant Savaiyanath Township, located near the Wadhwan area, for a long time.
Taking a jibe at the office bearers, the AAP member urged them to look into this issue first instead of splurging crores over mere embellishments.
The police personnel present at the scene removed the AAP leader from his seat and detained him.
The leader pointed out the authoritative lapses in the city and said, “People face major hardships as there is no supply of drinking water in few areas of Surendranagar. Numerous appeals have been made to the authorities and office bearers and have even carried out protests and demonstrations, but all this has yielded no results.”
The party leader also alleged that the event took place in the striking absence of locals. Only the female workers at Anganwadis [Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)], healthcare workers, and teaching staff were invited to this event.
