₹70 crore Dakor bridge in Gujarat shows signs of damage in three months

Updated: Jul 17th, 2024

A ₹70 crore bridge in Gujarat, opened in March this year on Dakor bypass heading to Nadiad, is showing signs of damage in just three months.

An iron slab on a joint of a bridge has bulged up dangerously on the road, which, according to a contractor of the construction company who built the bridge, is the result of overloaded vehicles passing on it.

The bridge, inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Mar 8, 2024, was built by Mangalya Buildcon Agency.

The contract for the project was awarded to Mangalya Buildcon in 2020, and the estimate of completion for the construction was set at 18 months. However, it took 32 months to finish the project, and it opened to the public in March 2024.

Dakor BJP MLA Yogendrasinh Parmar denied any issues with the bridge and stated that the bridge was built with all the necessary conditions in mind from the beginning.

Haresh Patel, a contractor with Mangalya Buildcon, said that the elevated iron slab has been replaced with some repair work, and there is no damage to the road on the bridge.

The road and building department’s deputy engineer Pratik Soni also said that there is no damage or potholes on the road. The iron expansion joint’s welding work has been completed.
