IMD warns of heavy rains, strong wind across 17 states including Gujarat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for 17 states, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning. As per reports, the southwest monsoon is moving quickly across the country and is expected to become stronger in the coming days. Strong winds of up to 80 to 85 kmph are likely in states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay alert during bad weather.

According to the IMD, the weather is expected to remain severe in several parts of the country. Heavy rainfall may affect areas from Maharashtra and Gujarat to Bihar, West Bengal and the hill states. A red alert is still in place for Mumbai and Palghar due to the risk of very heavy rain. Hilly regions may also face landslides, while eastern parts of the country could see the impact of cyclonic conditions.

The IMD said several weather systems are active across India at the same time. A monsoon trough is currently stretching from Rajasthan to Bihar, while a cyclonic circulation has formed over the Bay of Bengal.

Cyclonic systems are also active over Gujarat, Haryana and Lakshadweep, and a Western Disturbance is affecting Uttar Pradesh. Because of these weather systems, the southwest monsoon is expected to advance further over Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and more parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Farmers have reportedly been asked to protect their standing crops as strong winds could cause damage. People should stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or in open fields during lightning. Authorities have advised everyone to follow weather updates and take all necessary precautions until conditions improve.
