Two people lost their lives to lightning strikes

With two cyclonic systems active simultaneously in Gujarat, a change in weather was experienced in Gujarat. Up to one and a half inches of rain fell in 60 talukas of the state on Mar 2. Some regions in Ahmedabad and Sabarkantha were also subjected to hailstorms.

Two people, one in Banaskantha and one in Sabarkantha, lost their lives to lightning. A 12-year-old has also been reported severely injured in a lightning strike.

North and south Gujarat, regions of Kutch, and Saurashtra are also likely to receive rainfall today.

Rainfall has been forecast in most of the districts of North Gujarat, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Bharuch, Dwarka, Morbi, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Botad, Bhavnagar, and Kutch.

Right from the night of Mar 1, the weather in Gujarat was overcast and in the morning and the afternoon, most of the talukas in Gujarat received rainfall.

In Kutch’s Anjar, 1.5 inches of rain was recorded in two hours from 6 to 8 a.m. There were also reports of downed power lines at some places in the city due to strong winds along with rain.

In the Sapeda village of Anjar, three cows died when the power lines fell due to strong winds. Wadali of Sabarkantha received 1.5 inches of rain along with hail, with up to 1 inch of rain in Vijayanagar.

Apart from this, there was scattered rain in Poshina, Khed Brahma, Prantij, Talod, and Idar.

With unseasonal rain for the third time in the season, there is fear of damage to the crops harvested in north Gujarat, including the crops of cumin, castor, gram, potato, tobacco, and mustard.
