498 accidents daily, 21 injured every hour as Gujarat sees surge in road accidents

In a concerning trend, road accidents in Gujarat are on the rise. In the four months of 2025, the state witnessed 52,243 injuries from accidents. An average of 498 accidents occur each day, and 21 people are injured per hour.
Last year, a total of 47,679 people were injured in road accidents between January 1 and April 16.
This surged to 52,243 injuries from accidents this year during the same period.
Compared to last year in Gujarat, there has been an increase of about 10% in the number of injuries caused by vehicle accidents.
Last year, the average number of people injured in vehicle accidents per day was 45.
According to information received from the ‘108’ EMRI emergency service, Ahmedabad district is at the forefront this year in terms of the highest number of accident injuries in the state.
During this period, 8,512 people were injured in road accidents in Ahmedabad.
This means an average of 3 people suffered injuries from road accidents in an hour and 81 people in 24 hours.
In 2024, a total of 8,093 people were injured in road accidents in Ahmedabad.
Compared to last year in Ahmedabad, there has been an increase of about 5.18% in the number of injuries caused by vehicle accidents.
Ahmedabad saw the highest number of injuries from accidents followed by Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar.
Dang saw a 31% increase in injuries from accidents than last year. While injuries were 229 in 2024, it rose to 300 in 2025 between Jan 1 and Apr 16.
In the last two days alone, more than 20 people have lost their lives in accidents in Gujarat. Among these, about five people from Ahmedabad died in hit-and-run accidents.
