Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP)’s State Monitoring Cell (SMC) seized two containers carrying liquor worth ₹2.97 crore near Pragpar Chokdi close to Mundra Port over the weekend.

Investigators said the illicit consignment was part of a network allegedly run by notorious bootlegger Anopsinh Rathod from Kutch’s Kera He is currently in jail.

According to police, 11 containers of liquor were moved from Punjab to Mundra via train in the last three months, disguised as legitimate domestic cargo. The containers were reportedly cleared without scrutiny because goods were marked for transport within the country.

The first container held 11,731 bottles of foreign liquor worth ₹1.54 crore, with batch numbers deliberately removed. A second container, traced to the RND Yard at Mundra Port, contained 12,600 bottles worth ₹1.42 crore, sent using falsified documentation.

Police have booked multiple people, including drivers, facilitators, and traders involved in arranging transportation. Investigators are now probing whether the seized consignments were meant for sale in Kutch or routed to Surat.
