3 bodies recovered, search still on for 5 more after tractors overturns in Dhavana
In Dhavana village, Surendranagar, three bodies were recovered 41 hours after a tractor overturned. Five individuals are still missing in the incident.
Rescue operations have been significantly hampered due to the persistent rainfall and high water levels, making it difficult for the fire brigade, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), and SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) teams to conduct searches. Previously, 17 people were involved in the tractor accident, with nine being rescued at the time.
After intensive efforts, the bodies of three individuals were recovered: Vijay Barot, Ashwin Rathod, and Ramdev Makwana. These bodies have been sent to Halvad Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Ashish Barot (age 12), Rajuben Barot (age 45), Jinal Barot (age 6), Geeta Barot (age 16), and Janki Makwana (age 32) remain missing, and the search is ongoing.
The accident occurred late at night around 9 pm on Aug 25 when a tractor overturned in the fast-flowing Kankawati River near Dhavana village. Local residents made significant efforts that night, managing to save nine people from the rushing water. However, eight individuals remained missing, prompting the authorities to initiate a search and rescue operation. Due to the challenging terrain of the Baval-Zhankhra area, fire brigade, NDRF, and SDRF teams have been engaged in the search.
The incident has deeply affected one family from Dhavana, with five of its members being involved in the accident. Among them is Ashwin Rathod from Zoravarnagar, who had recently married six months ago and was attending a post-wedding ceremony in Dhavana. Additionally, Jinal Barot, a six-year-old girl from Paatadi, was visiting her relatives in Dhavana and was swept away during the incident.
