3.4 magnitude earthquake recorded in North Gujarat, no damage reported

A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck north Gujarat in the early hours of Saturday, with its epicentre near Vav town in Banaskantha district, the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) confirmed in a public statement.

The tremor was recorded at around 3.35 am at a shallow depth of 4.9 km and approximately 27 km east-northeast of Vav.

As per reports from district authorities, no casualties or property damage have been reported following the seismic event. 

Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) data highlights that the state falls within a high seismic risk zone and has witnessed nine significant earthquakes in the last two centuries.

One of the most devastating incidents remains the 2001 Kutch earthquake, which reportedly killed around 13,800 people and left over 1.67 lakh injured. Authorities continue to monitor the region for aftershocks or related activity.
