266 candidates to contest Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat, only 19 women
Gujarat is set to witness a Lok Sabha and bye elections showdown among 290 candidates on May 7.
Only 19 women candidates are in fray for Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat.
According to the office of the chief electoral officer of the state, 433 candidates were in the fray for 26 Lok Sabha seats and 37 for the Assembly, but after verification of nomination forms, 266 candidates remained in the fray for the Lok Sabha and 24 for the Assembly.
The Election Commission had rejected 105 nomination papers.
The final list of candidates has been prepared after the withdrawal of 62 nomination papers on Apr 22.
Ahmedabad Lok Sabha seat will witness the highest number of contenders with 18 candidates while the least three candidates are contesting from Bardoli.
According to reports, among the key constituencies, 14 candidates are running for the electoral battle in Gandhinagar.
Eight candidates are contesting from the Vijapur seat and two from Waghodia.
Notably, 371 candidates contested in Gujarat in previous Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
