25 private schools shut down in city due to zero student enrollment

Updated: Aug 22nd, 2024

As many as 25 private schools in the city were shut down by the District Education Officer (DEO) due to a complete lack of student enrollment.

The DEO’s order affects Gujarati, Hindi, and English medium primary and secondary schools.

Among those closed are schools such as A-one, HBK New Primary (Gujarat Board English Medium), Pragati Hindi Vidyalaya, New Nutan Vidyalaya, Ashish Hindi School, Aastha International, Sadguru Vidyalaya, Sanskar Vidyalaya, Satyam Primary School, Rajnagar Primary School, Satsangi Shishuvihar, Vidyanagar Girls Primary School, Forum Primary School, Prem Hindi School, Anura Learning Center, Sanskar Primary School, Jaihind Bal Vidyalaya, K S Vidyalaya, and Bhagwati Primary School.

Over the past three years, these schools have seen their student numbers drop to zero. Consequently, the DEO has initiated the process to close these institutions by deactivating their Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) numbers, as per the regulations.

It is noteworthy that in recent years, many Gujarat board schools have closed down or transitioned to CBSE boards, and a large number of students have transferred from private schools to government schools.
