23 municipalities in Gujarat granted ₹90cr loan to pay electricity bills

The Gujarat local body elections are scheduled for February 16, and in some parts of Gujarat, there are concerns that some municipalities may face power outages due to the nonpayment of electricity bills. For which Gujarat government have granted ₹90 crore loan for payment of the electricity bill.
A total of 57 municipalities have yet to pay their electricity bills, which have accumulated to a total of ₹311 crore.
The highest pending bill is for Savarkundla municipality, amounting to ₹46.18 crore, followed by Kutch-Bhuj municipality with ₹42.22 crore.
If these bills are not paid on time, electricity may be cut off in these cities.
To prevent this, the government has loaned money to the municipalities to ensure that the bills are paid and the cities remain illuminated.
A total of ₹90 crore in loans has been granted to 23 municipalities for this purpose.
The Gujarat Municipal Finance Board has decided to provide loans for paying electricity bills to the following municipalities– Mandvi, Ranavav, Porbandar-Chhaya, Mundra-Baroi, Kutiyaana, Gondal, Nakhatrana, Sikka, Morbi, Dhrangadhra, Thasra, Limbdi, Kanjari, Bavla, Nadiad, Disa, Dahegam, Chansma, Talod, Dhanera, Prantij, Bayad, and Prantij.
It has been stipulated that if the loan installments are not paid in timely manner, the amount will be deducted from the municipalities’ other grants.
