157 talukas receive rain in Gujarat, Mangrol receives highest

Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has significantly eased concerns over agriculture in Gujarat after an almost dry June and forecasts of a weak monsoon linked to El Niño conditions. Widespread showers across Saurashtra and South Gujarat have revived hopes for the kharif sowing season.

According to the latest State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) report released at 10 am on Friday, rainfall was recorded in 172 talukas across 33 districts during the last 24 hours, with the state's average rainfall standing at 24.17 mm. Gujarat has received 76.92 mm of seasonal rainfall so far, which is 8.46% of the seasonal average.

Mangrol receives highest rainfall in 24 hours

The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Mangrol (Junagadh), which received 321 mm (12.64 inches) during the last 24 hours.

Other top rainfall recipients included:

Sutrapada (Gir Somnath): 314 mm (12.36 inches)
Keshod (Junagadh): 278 mm (10.94 inches)
Patan-Veraval (Gir Somnath): 256 mm (10.08 inches)
Maliya Hatina (Junagadh): 232 mm (9.13 inches)

The torrential downpour inundated several parts of Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts, leading to waterlogging, overflowing rivers and disruption of normal life. The rainfall has, however, brought much-needed relief to farmers awaiting adequate monsoon showers for kharif sowing.

South Gujarat records intense morning showers

Rain activity shifted towards South Gujarat on Friday morning.

Between 6 am and 10 am, Chikhli in Navsari district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 204 mm (8.03 inches), followed by:

Valsad: 175 mm (6.89 inches)
Gandevi (Navsari): 169 mm (6.65 inches)
The Dangs: 128 mm (5.04 inches)
Dolvan (Tapi): 111 mm (4.37 inches)

South Gujarat and Saurashtra lead seasonal rainfall

Among the regions, South Gujarat has recorded 160.24 mm of seasonal rainfall (10.39% of its seasonal average), while Saurashtra has received 79.63 mm (10.45%). North Gujarat has recorded 29.98 mm, East-Central Gujarat 62.04 mm, and Kutch 2 mm so far this season.

Monsoon brings relief to farmers

After weeks of uncertainty due to delayed rainfall, the widespread showers are expected to accelerate kharif sowing across the state. Weather conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon and continued rainfall over parts of Gujarat in the coming days.
