15 cholera cases confirmed in Jamnagar, 31 hospitalised

Fifteen cases of cholera have been confirmed and 31 people hospitalised following an outbreak in the Bedeshwar area of Jamnagar city in Gujarat, prompting an urgent public health response by local authorities.
Officials said more than 48 suspected cases have been reported in the past two days, raising concern among residents and triggering intensified surveillance measures.
The sudden increase in patients suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting led to a rush at the city’s G G Hospital, where doctors and healthcare staff have been mobilised to manage the situation. Several residents have complained to the administration about possible contamination of drinking water pipelines, alleging that polluted water may have entered the supply.
With cases of water-borne diseases rising, the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has moved into alert mode. Arogya officer Haresh Gori said 20 teams have been deployed to conduct door-to-door surveys and collect drinking water samples from affected localities.
The civic body’s solid waste and underground sewer departments have launched an intensive cleanliness drive, while the waterworks department is inspecting pipelines to identify potential sources of contamination.
Health teams have so far surveyed approximately 2,700 households and distributed chlorine tablets as a precautionary measure. Authorities have advised residents to consume only boiled or purified water and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms.
