Lioness mauls 13-year-old girl to death in Visavadar, near Gir

In a rural area of Visavadar, the gateway to Gir National Park in Junagadh, a lioness preyed on a teenager, killing her on the spot.

Rahli Bata Narsinh, a 13-year-old girl was on her way with her sister to hand batteries to her father in a nearby field, when she was attacked by a lioness. The ferocious creature dragged her about 400 feet.

Rahli’s sister rushed to her father and informed him about the incident. As he found the lioness preying over her, he made the lioness retract, leaving the girl behind.

Villagers and the Sarpanch rushed to the spot along with the forest department team following the incident.

The unfortunate family is native to Madhya Pradesh, and were working as labourers in a field.

According to locals, two lionesses and a cub have been roaming in this area for the past three days.

Lionesses generally do not attack humans, so the forest department is investigating the reason for the attack.  Currently, the forest team has increased efforts to capture the lioness.

The girl being mauled to death in Bardiya village has created an atmosphere of fear in the surrounding areas.  For locals, the terror of wild animals is increasing day by day in the outskirts and fields of Baradiya village, Visavadar taluka.
