In a major crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical activities, authorities have seized drugs worth ₹1.21 crore from a pharma unit in Ahmedabad. The action was part of a wider inspection drive conducted across Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Savli, and Ankleshwar.

The raid, carried out by the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), revealed that several medicines, particularly those used for mental health treatment, were being sold online without mandatory prescriptions. Officials said such drugs have high potential for misuse as intoxicants.

Investigations also found that some companies were manufacturing medicines without proper authorization and distributing them in bulk. In a key development, Vadodara-based M/s. Amico Formulation LLP was found producing Tapentadol Hydrochloride, a drug allegedly being diverted for non-medical, addictive use. Authorities have suspended the company’s manufacturing license with immediate effect.

Samples collected during the inspection included MIXACRIP Caplets, which were declared “not of standard quality” by laboratories. The company has been issued a notice to halt its sale.

Further violations included the presence of allopathic ingredients in Ayurvedic medicines, sale of drugs without invoices, and operations without valid licenses.

At M/s Yusuf Medicines in Gomtipur, an Ayurvedic drug branded ‘HABBE AUJA’ was found to contain the allopathic ingredient Diclofenac, leading officials to classify it as spurious. A stock of medicines worth around ₹12,000 was seized during the raid.

In a separate case, Times Medicament Pvt. Ltd. was found to have shifted its premises without approval and reported irregularities in the billing of Mounjaro injections. Medicines worth approximately ₹4.60 lakh were confiscated as part of the action.

Meanwhile, the licence of M/s AEDMAX Lifecare, Ahmedabad, has been suspended for 15 days after the firm was linked to the illegal sale of codeine-based Rexcron syrup.

Further scrutiny is underway against Maxila Mediscience Pvt Ltd, which manufactures drugs containing psychotropic substances such as Tramadol and Alprazolam. Authorities are currently verifying sales records and conducting a detailed investigation into the matter.

Authorities also seized a large stock of medicines worth around ₹40 lakh from a shop located on the first floor of E-24 at Manhar Nagar Shopping Centre in Ahmedabad. The stock was allegedly stored by Dharmeshbhai Jayantilal Sathwara without the required licence for sale.

In Vadodara, M/s Medicament Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has come under the scanner for illegally selling the anti-obesity injection “Mounjaro KwikPen” online without a doctor’s prescription.

Officials found that the firm was using misleading advertisements to attract customers and was dispatching the drug via courier without verifying patient details or prescriptions.

Taking serious note of the violations, authorities have permanently cancelled the company’s licence.

Officials confirmed that strict action has been initiated against the firms involved, and the online sale of such drugs is now under detailed investigation.
