Swords out in Gandhinagar: Five attacked in public, one critical

A dispute over the settlement of ₹1.27 crore allegedly turned violent near Landmark Mall in Kudasan, Gandhinagar, late on Monday, when a group of armed assailants attacked five people with swords and other sharp-edged weapons, leaving one person critically injured.

The attackers allegedly intercepted the victims near the mall and launched a brutal assault before vandalising their vehicle by smashing its windowpanes. The incident created panic among people in the busy commercial area as the assailants fled the spot.

One victim shifted to Ahmedabad

Among the five injured, Bharatsinh Chandawat sustained grievous injuries and was first taken to a nearby hospital before being referred to KD Hospital in Ahmedabad for specialised treatment. The remaining four victims are reported to be in stable condition.

Four suspects detained

Police have detained four suspects for questioning, while search operations are underway to trace the remaining accused, who are absconding.

An FIR has been registered at Infocity Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly and causing damage to property. Additional sections may be added as the investigation progresses.

CCTV, forensic evidence under scrutiny

Teams from the Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch (LCB) and local police have joined the investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage, recording statements of eyewitnesses and collecting forensic evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.

Investigators are also probing the circumstances surrounding the alleged ₹1.27 crore financial transaction, which police believe triggered the attack. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
