Centre Highlights Measures To Ensure Foodgrain Access
The Ministry said the responsibility for identifying eligible beneficiaries, issuing ration cards and overseeing foodgrain distribution under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, is shared by the Central and State governments.
To ensure that eligible beneficiaries are not denied subsidised foodgrains, multiple authentication methods have been introduced under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), including Single Finger, Fusion Finger, IRIS and Aadhaar-based OTP authentication.
The government has also enabled nominee facilities and offline functionality on electronic Point of Sale (e-PoS) devices to facilitate uninterrupted distribution. States and Union Territories have been directed to ensure that no genuine beneficiary is denied foodgrains because of biometric or technical issues.
