Indian Navy Sailor with Family Found Dead at Mumbai's home

A 30-year-old Indian Navy sailor, his wife, and their two toddler children were found dead at their Navy Nagar residence in Mumbai's Colaba area on Saturday in a suspected murder-suicide.

Local police recovered the bodies of sailor Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra, his wife Oma (28), their three-year-old son Yash, and their two-month-old infant inside their quarters in the high-security military zone.

Preliminary findings indicate Mehra died by hanging, whereas his wife and infants are suspected to have been poisoned.

Police Launch Probe in High-Security Zone

All four bodies were shifted to Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai for post-mortem examinations to confirm the precise causes of death.

Police teams arrived at the scene immediately after the incident was reported on Saturday to collect forensic evidence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Kalwaniya confirmed that prima facie evidence points towards hanging in the sailor's case, while chemical poisoning appears to be the cause behind the deaths of his wife and young children.

Naval Authorities Extend Co-operation

Naval headquarters reportedly issued a statement confirming the deaths occurred on August 15 at the Colaba naval enclave. 

The Indian Navy expressed grief over the loss and stated it is extending complete assistance to local law enforcement agencies currently managing the investigation.

Colaba police are recording statements from neighbours and colleagues to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragedy, while awaiting the detailed autopsy reports from hospital authorities.
