Zero-Balance Accounts And Overdraft Facility
The Ministry of Finance said PMJDY accounts are Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts that can be opened without any charges and do not require account holders to maintain a minimum balance.
Beneficiaries are eligible for facilities including an overdraft limit of up to ₹10,000. They are also provided with a free RuPay debit card carrying an in-built accidental insurance cover of ₹2 lakh for accounts opened after August 28, 2018.
Financial Literacy Campaigns
To encourage active use of banking services and improve financial awareness in rural areas, targeted saturation campaigns are being conducted alongside the Reserve Bank of India's Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL) project.
Rural bank branches and Financial Literacy Centres are also organising outdoor financial literacy camps for groups including farmers, small entrepreneurs and self-help groups, with the aim of promoting regular banking habits and greater awareness of financial services.
