Daman Police Arrest Jharkhand Man In Fake E-Challan APK Fraud Case

Daman Police have arrested a suspected member of an interstate cyber fraud gang from Jharkhand for allegedly hacking mobile phones through fake RTO e-challan APK files and siphoning money from victims’ bank accounts.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Sagir Ansari, was arrested in Giridih after a police team spent three to four days tracking him down. He was subsequently brought to Daman after police obtained his transit remand from a court.

Police are now questioning Ansari to establish how many people the gang allegedly targeted and how much money was siphoned from their accounts.

Victim’s Phone Hacked After Installing Fake APK

The case came to light after a resident within the jurisdiction of Kachigam Coastal Police Station received an APK file from an unknown number on July 27, 2026.

The file was sent in the name of an RTO e-challan. The victim installed it on his mobile phone, following which the device was hacked.

He later received a message informing him that money had been withdrawn from his bank account. Shocked by the transaction, he approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Technical Analysis Leads Police To Jharkhand

During the investigation, Kachigam Police conducted a technical analysis of the APK file and traced an important lead linked to an interstate fraud network.

The probe allegedly established the involvement of Mohammad Sagir Ansari. Acting on the information, a police team travelled to Giridih in Jharkhand and conducted a search operation for three to four days before arresting him.

Police seized Ansari’s mobile phone and brought him to Daman on transit remand.

His custodial interrogation is expected to help investigators determine the extent of the gang’s activities in Daman and identify other victims linked to the alleged fraud.

Police Warn Against Fake Government-Service APK Files

Daman Police have urged residents not to install APK files received through WhatsApp or SMS in the name of RTO e-challans or other government services.

Police have also advised people to verify the authenticity of any suspicious link or file through the concerned department’s official source before opening or installing it.
