Vadodara Reports 2 More Suspected Chandipura Virus Cases, 7 Children Under Treatment at Sayaji Hospital

Two more suspected cases of Chandipura virus have been reported at Sayaji Hospital in the last 24 hours, taking the number of children currently under treatment for suspected infection to seven. Health officials have sent samples from both new patients for laboratory testing, and the results are awaited.

The latest patients include a seven-year-old boy from Panchmahal district and a two-year-old girl from Vadodara rural. Both children were admitted after developing symptoms consistent with Chandipura virus infection and are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Four test reports awaited

Hospital authorities said that seven children are currently undergoing treatment at Sayaji Hospital. Of these, laboratory reports of four children are still pending, while three children have tested negative for Chandipura virus.

The Chandipura virus is a vector-borne infection that primarily affects children and can cause acute encephalitis-like illness. Health authorities continue to monitor suspected cases closely while awaiting confirmation through laboratory testing.

Meanwhile, concerns over Chandipura virus have intensified across parts of Saurashtra after two more children died at Jamnagar’s GG Hospital, while a three-month-old girl from Panchiyavadar village in Gondal taluka tested positive for the infection.

With the latest deaths, the number of children who have died at the Jamnagar hospital after showing Chandipura-like symptoms has risen to three. Six children were reportedly admitted to the hospital, although health officials said the test reports of the two latest fatalities were negative for Chandipura virus.

Reports of four other children from Jamnagar and Rajkot have also reportedly returned negative. The exact cause behind the serious condition of the affected children remains under investigation.
