Seven Drown To Death In Gujarat During Holiday Weekend, Including Six Children

Seven people, including six children, died in separate drowning incidents across Gujarat during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

In the most tragic incident near Rajkot, four members of a family drowned in a lake while celebrating an 11-year-old boy’s birthday. Two eight-year-old twin brothers drowned in a resort swimming pool near Vadodara, while a 15-year-old girl drowned in the Daman Ganga River near Silvassa while reportedly taking a selfie.

Four Family Members Drown Near Rajkot

The incident occurred at a lake near Nesvada Pir Bapu Dargah in Bedi village, on the outskirts of Rajkot.

The family had visited the dargah to celebrate the birthday of 11-year-old Sohan Abhesra. Around 15 family members later went to the nearby lake.

According to the report, six-year-old Sefan Sajidbhai Abhesra fell into the lake and began drowning. His brother Sohan and nine-year-old Alifa Akrambhai Sora reportedly entered the water while attempting to rescue him.

Their relatives 20-year-old Sahil Jamalbhai Abhesra and 23-year-old Riyaz also entered the lake to save the children.

Riyaz managed to get out of the water, while Sahil also began drowning. Family members later pulled Sohan, Sefan, Alifa and Sahil out and rushed them to hospital, where doctors declared all four dead.

The incident left the family devastated as the birthday celebration turned into a tragedy.

Twin Brothers Drown At Resort Pool Near Vadodara

Another tragedy occurred at Kamdhenu Resort near Umeta village in Anklav, where a family from Vadodara's Tandalja area had gone for the weekend holiday.

The family's eight-year-old twin brothers, Mohammad Noman Mehboob Siddiqui and Hamza, reportedly went into the resort's swimming pool.

The family members pulled the children out and rushed them to hospital, but doctors declared both dead.

Anklav police have registered a case of accidental death and begun an investigation.

15-Year-Old Girl Drowns While Taking Selfie Near Silvassa

In another incident, a 15-year-old girl, Kajalkumari, drowned in the Daman Ganga River near the riverfront in Silvassa.

According to the report, the family from Masat village had gone to the Daman Ganga Riverfront during the Independence Day holiday.

Kajalkumari was reportedly taking a selfie near a check dam when she accidentally fell into the river's deep water.

Rescuers recovered her body from the water on Sunday morning.
