Worker Killed After Lift Cable Snaps at LG Hospital Construction Site in Maninagar

A tragic accident occurred at the under-construction building of LG Hospital in Maninagar on Saturday after a lift collapsed from the ninth floor, killing a worker from Rajasthan.

Maninagar police have registered a case of accidental death and launched an investigation to determine whether adequate safety measures were in place and whether the lift had been serviced on time. Police said action would be taken against the contractor and other responsible persons if any negligence is found.

Lift cable snaps after control panel malfunction

According to police, the incident took place at the new building being constructed inside LG Hospital in Maninagar.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Shyam Mali, a native of Rajasthan who had been living near the Thakkarnagar police chowky and had been working at the construction site for the past two years.

At around 9 am on Saturday, Shyam was working on one of the upper floors and loading construction material into the lift when the accident occurred.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the lift's control panel malfunctioned, causing the lift cable to snap suddenly. The worker fell along with the lift and died on the spot.

Police probe safety measures, contractor’s role

Maninagar police station inspector J.P. Jadeja said the contract for the construction of the new LG Hospital building had been awarded to contractor Umeshbhai Devani.

Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating whether proper safety equipment had been provided to workers and whether maintenance of the lift was carried out regularly.

Officials said that if lapses are found during the investigation, a criminal case will be registered against the contractor and other persons responsible.
