Two Luxury Cars, 4,600 bottles of Illegal Liquor Seized by Ahmedabad Police

Ahmedabad Police have seized 4,600 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) being allegedly smuggled from Rajasthan to Gujarat in two separate operations on the SP Ring Road.

The seizures were made by the Sola Police and the DCP Zone-1 squad near the Bhadaj Circle. Preliminary investigations suggest the consignments were being transported to Bareja.

Fake Number Plates Found on Both Vehicles

Police said both the luxury SUVs—a Toyota Fortuner and a Hyundai Creta—were fitted with fake registration number plates.

Acting on a tip-off, the Sola Police laid a trap near Bhadaj Circle on Friday night after receiving information that a large consignment of liquor was being transported from Rajasthan.

When officers signalled the Fortuner to stop, the driver allegedly attempted to flee. Police chased the vehicle and intercepted it, recovering around 3,000 bottles of IMFL valued at approximately ₹6 lakh.

Police Inspector K.N. Bhukan said the arrested accused, identified as Mularam Jat and Kahram Devasi, were allegedly transporting the liquor from Rajasthan to Bareja. During interrogation, investigators also identified a suspected bootlegger named Suresh, whose name has surfaced in previous liquor smuggling cases.

Separate Operation Nets 1,700 More Bottles

In another operation, the DCP Zone-1 squad intercepted a suspicious Hyundai Creta near the Bhadaj-Ognaj Circle on the SP Ring Road.

A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 1,700 bottles of IMFL. Police arrested Tej Singh, a resident of Sirohi district in Rajasthan.

Investigators said the probe has also identified four other individuals, including the alleged supplier and the person who had placed the order for the consignment.

Further investigation is under way.
