AC Heist Busted: Three Held for ₹1.75 Lakh Theft in Ahmedabad

The Sarkhej police have arrested three men for allegedly stealing five indoor units of a Hitachi central air-conditioning system worth ₹1.75 lakh from a commercial property undergoing renovation on Ambli–Bopal Road. Police have also recovered the stolen equipment, while the search for another suspected accomplice is underway.

The accused have been identified as Karan alias Ginne alias PK Dantani (18), Ravi alias Kancho alias Sachin Dantani (25) and Deepak alias Dipu Dantani (22), all residents of the Narol area.

Property left vulnerable during renovation

The theft was reported by Darshakbhai Mukeshbhai Gadhiya (28), manager of One Click Innovation Pvt. Ltd., which has leased Hira Rupa Hall for a proposed factory outlet.

According to the complaint, renovation work had been underway for nearly three months. After the security guard resigned on June 30, the premises remained unattended during the night. In addition, portions of the boundary wall and entrance had been left open because of the ongoing work.

Around 20 indoor AC units had earlier been dismantled and stored on the ground floor. On July 7, the renovation supervisor noticed several units missing, prompting the company to inspect the site. The inspection confirmed that five indoor AC units, each valued at approximately ₹35,000, had been stolen.

Recovery made during investigation

The breakthrough came during a separate police operation near the Narol–Vatva Road, where the three accused were detained. During questioning, they allegedly confessed to stealing the air-conditioning units in the early hours of July 7.

Based on the information provided by the accused, police recovered all five stolen AC units and seized them as evidence.

Probe widens

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for house-trespass and theft.

Investigators are now probing whether the trio was involved in similar thefts from construction and renovation sites across Ahmedabad. Police are also working to identify the fourth suspect believed to have participated in the burglary. Further investigation is underway.
