A violent clash between two groups in Ahmedabad's Dariyapur area on Sunday night has led to cross-FIRs, with both sides accusing each other of launching armed attacks using swords, wooden sticks and baseball bats. Several people from both groups sustained injuries, and police have begun an investigation to establish the sequence of events.
First complaint: Earlier dispute escalated into armed attack
According to the first FIR lodged by 19-year-old labourer Usaid Sakibbhai Sheikh, the incident traces back to an argument around 6 pm near Dandiyawad involving Yahiya. Usaid alleged he suffered a hand injury during the initial altercation and later received treatment at Civil Hospital.
He claimed that around 10.45 pm, Yahiya, accompanied by his father Rashid Bukhari, Sahil Bukhari, and Bhuran Bawa, arrived outside his residence in Mastan Mohalla and assaulted him.
Usaid alleged that Yahiya armed himself with a sword, while the others picked up wooden sticks. During the attack, his relative Ruzan Haiderbhai Sheikh allegedly suffered a cut injury while trying to stop the sword assault.
Several other family members, including Sahal Salimbhai Sheikh and Shaukat Khan Chauhan, were also allegedly injured with sticks.
The complainant further alleged that Nazir Gota, Faizan Miyana and another youth known as Romeo later joined the assault before fleeing the scene.
Cross-FIR: 'We were attacked first,' claims other group
In the cross complaint, Abdul Rashid Abdulghani Bukhari presented an entirely different version.
He alleged that although the earlier dispute between his son Yahiya and Usaid had been resolved, Usaid's family later arrived at their residence, leading to another confrontation in which his wife sustained injuries.
Rashid further claimed that while he and his family were attending a community gathering later that night, Usaid, Faizan and two unidentified associates confronted Yahiya again.
According to his complaint, Usaid allegedly grabbed Yahiya before Faizan fetched a wooden baseball bat. Rashid claimed Yahiya was struck on the head, and when he tried to intervene, he too suffered head injuries.
His younger brother Abdul Qadir was also allegedly assaulted, while a parked rickshaw and motorcycle were damaged during the violence.
A video of the altercation that went viral afterwards showed people getting into physical fights and even pelting stones during the incident.
The Dariyapur Police have registered separate offences based on both complaints and are investigating the incident.
