Meghaninagar Sexual Assault Case: POCSO Court Sentences 32-Year-Old Man to 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

A special POCSO court in Ahmedabad has sentenced 32-year-old Amit Vanzara to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl outside her home in Meghaninagar.

Special POCSO Judge N.H. Vasveliya pronounced the verdict after finding Vanzara guilty under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Observing that such heinous acts cannot be treated leniently, the court remarked that delivering a strict punishment was essential in the interest of justice to set a firm precedent for society.

Assault Outside Victim's Home

The incident occurred on the night of June 2, 2024, when the victim was sleeping on a cot outside her house. Vanzara, a resident of a neighbouring chawl, approached the sleeping child, physically restrained her, and subjected her to severe sexual harassment.

Frightened by the attack, the child initially kept quiet. However, her mother noticed her weeping in severe pain later that night and gently probed until the girl recounted the ordeal. On June 4, 2024, the victim's mother filed a formal complaint against Vanzara at the Meghaninagar Police Station.

Key Evidence Secures Conviction

Following a swift investigation, the Meghaninagar police filed a comprehensive charge sheet against the accused. Special Public Prosecutor Vijaysinh Chavda presented 14 witnesses and 9 key documentary proofs during the trial, establishing the prosecution's case beyond reasonable doubt.

After evaluating the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court handed down the 20-year sentence to Vanzara, sending a strong message against crimes targeting minors.
