CNCD Team Under Attack in Vadaj: Three Booked for Assaulting AMC Cattle Control Officers

A routine stray cattle impoundment turned violent in Vadaj on Friday afternoon when a three-member mob allegedly assaulted officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD). The cattle owners allegedly attacked the civic officers with sticks and issued death threats after being caught letting around 15 cows roam freely on a busy public road.

Midnight Distress Call Triggers CNCD Strike Near Riverfront

The incident unfolded at around 3:30 pm on August 7, while a CNCD inspection team was on active duty along the Sabarmati Riverfront stretch. The team received urgent instructions from Dr Divyeshbhai Solanki, Superintendent of the AMC’s cattle control wing, reporting that a herd of roughly 15 cows was blocking traffic behind the Nawawad sub-zonal office near Bharwadvas.

Civic Inspector Hiralkumar Ramanbhai Dhakiya, 32, attached to the AMC’s West Zone, reached the location alongside colleagues to impound the stray animals. However, a group of local cattle owners quickly gathered at the spot to resist the civic action.

Sticks, Blows to the Head, and Death Threats

When Dhakiya tried to explain the legal procedure and civic guidelines to the owners, three men confronted the official and questioned the municipal action. The situation rapidly deteriorated into physical violence:

• One assailant struck Dhakiya on the back of his head, while two others verbally abused and shoved him.
• A man armed with a wooden stick charged at Dhakiya, landed another blow to his head, and threatened to kill him once his duty shift ended.
• Another CNCD team member, Hiteshbhai Chaudhary, was cornered by the trio, beaten with a stick, and threatened with dire consequences.

Police Intervention and Legal Action

As the violence escalated, Chaudhary dialed the 112 emergency helpline, prompting a police team to rush to the scene. The presence of law enforcement brought the situation under control, allowing the injured AMC personnel to move to the Vadaj Police Station.

Based on Dhakiya's formal complaint, the Vadaj Police have registered a case against the three accused under relevant statutory provisions for assaulting public servants, obstructing government officials from discharging their official duty, and criminal intimidation. Investigators are currently conducting raids to arrest the three absconding assailants.
