A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable has alleged that her gold mangalsutra worth around ₹1 lakh was stolen by an unidentified person while she was travelling on a crowded BRTS bus in Ahmedabad, prompting Ramol Police to register an FIR.
The incident occurred on July 6 when the complainant was travelling from Shivranjani BRTS bus stop to Ramol Express Highway BRTS station, police said.
Theft Allegedly Took Place Amid Rush of Passengers
According to the FIR, Bhavanaben Deshmukh, 40, a resident of Satellite and a Head Constable with the CISF posted at ISRO, boarded a BRTS bus at around 2 pm to travel towards CTM via the Express Highway.
She told police that the bus remained heavily crowded throughout the journey.
When the bus reached the Ramol Express Highway BRTS station at around 2.30 pm, passengers began getting off amid the rush. After alighting, Bhavanaben realised that the gold mangalsutra she had been wearing around her neck, weighing about one tola and valued at approximately ₹1 lakh, was missing.
She alleged that an unidentified person took advantage of the crowd, brushed against her inside the bus and stealthily removed the ornament before escaping.
Complaint Filed After Family Engagement
The complainant told police that she was travelling onward to Vadodara for a family engagement and therefore did not immediately report the incident. She also stated that she did not have the purchase bill for the jewellery.
After informing her family members, she was advised to approach the police, following which she lodged an FIR on August 6.
Police Begin Investigation
Ramol Police have registered a case against an unidentified accused under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to theft.
Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage from BRTS stations and buses operating along the route while pursuing other leads to identify and trace the accused.
