BJP, Congress Workers Clash in War of Slogans Outside Guj Cong HQ, Cops Deployed

Tension gripped the area outside the Gujarat Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad on Wednesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress workers gathered in large numbers and raised slogans against each other amid a political row sparked by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s protest in New Delhi.

The BJP organised a demonstration outside Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s proposed dharna outside the Prime Minister’s residence in the national capital. Led by Gujarat BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma, thousands of party workers assembled near the Congress office carrying party flags and chanting slogans against the opposition party.

Congress workers stage counter-protest

As BJP supporters gathered outside the Congress headquarters, Congress workers also reached the party office and responded with counter-slogans, resulting in a face-off between the rival camps.

Although the protests remained limited to slogan-shouting, the atmosphere around the Congress Bhavan remained charged for several hours as leaders and workers from both parties traded barbs.

Ahmedabad Police deploy nearly 2,000 personnel

Anticipating possible law and order issues, Ahmedabad Police mounted an extensive security operation in and around the Congress headquarters and adjoining roads.

Senior officers, including the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), supervised the deployment on the ground.

According to police officials, nearly 2,000 personnel were stationed across the protest site to maintain order and ensure that workers from both political parties remained separated.

Barricades erected, traffic movement monitored

Police erected barricades at strategic locations and regulated access to the area to prevent any untoward incident. Personnel were also deployed at nearby intersections to manage traffic and minimise disruption for commuters.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Jitendra Agrawal said adequate security arrangements had been made in view of the possibility of large gatherings by both parties. He added that officers were closely monitoring the situation and urged protesters to maintain peace and comply with police instructions.

Political fallout over Rahul Gandhi’s protest

The demonstrations in Ahmedabad come amid escalating political tensions over developments in New Delhi, where the Congress has intensified its protests against the Union government.

The BJP, in response, has organised demonstrations at several locations, including Ahmedabad, criticising Rahul Gandhi’s actions.

Despite the charged atmosphere, no untoward incidents had been reported till the filing of this report, and police continued to maintain a strong presence in the area.
