AMC Seals 2 Premises, Issues 108 Notices In Ahmedabad Mosquito-Control Drive

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) sealed two premises and issued notices to 108 establishments during a city-wide mosquito-control drive, officials said on Friday.

The civic body inspected 612 establishments as part of intensified measures to prevent mosquito-borne diseases, recovering ₹2.53 lakh in administrative charges from units found violating health and sanitation norms.

Two Premises Sealed

The sealed premises were Ashirwad Levais in Lambha ward of the South Zone and a Rain Basera construction site in Sarkhej ward of the South West Zone.

The inspections were carried out by teams from the AMC's Vector-Borne Disease Control Branch across commercial establishments, construction sites and other premises.

Officials from various civic departments, including Deputy Municipal Commissioners, Assistant Municipal Commissioners, health officers, deputy health officers and entomology teams, participated in the inspections.

World Mosquito Day Drive

The inspections formed part of the AMC's activities marking World Mosquito Day on August 20, aimed at raising awareness about diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Zika and filariasis.

The civic body conducted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities across 314 residential areas, reaching 7,213 people. An equal number of health-awareness pamphlets were distributed.

The East Zone recorded the highest number of awareness activities at 69, followed by the West Zone with 57 and the South Zone with 49.

The Malaria Department also organised 112 mosquito-larvae demonstration camps at public places.

Awareness Drive Across All 48 Wards

Awareness programmes were conducted in residential areas across all 48 AMC wards under the leadership of municipal councillors. The programmes focused on preventing mosquito bites and eliminating breeding sites.

AMC teams also inspected civic premises, including Sardar Patel Bhavan, Pandit Deendayal Auditorium, fire stations, muster stations, Urban Health Centres, water distribution centres, AUDA markets and construction sites.

Residential areas including Bharti Society, Shiv Shakti Nagar and Bansi Ni Chali were also covered.

AMC Advises Residents To Follow Weekly 'Dry Day'

The civic body urged residents to prevent stagnant water from accumulating in and around their homes and regularly clean and dry coolers, bird pots, flower pots, old tyres and other containers that can become mosquito-breeding sites.

Residents were advised to use mosquito nets while sleeping, wear full-sleeved clothes outdoors and use mosquito repellents.

The AMC also appealed to residents to observe a weekly 'Dry Day' by emptying and cleaning all water containers.

Officials urged residents experiencing fever to seek immediate medical diagnosis and complete the prescribed course of treatment, particularly where malaria is suspected.

The civic body said intensive mosquito-control activities would continue at government and private premises and urged establishments and residents to regularly inspect their surroundings for mosquito-breeding sites.
