Ahmedabad Food Safety Drive: 3,000 Kg Expired Food Items Found in Rakhial Godown, Unit Sealed

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation sealed a Rakhial godown after finding around 3,000 kg of expired food items during a food safety inspection.

Expired Food Stock Found in Rakhial

The AMC Food Department inspected Shri Krishna Sales Corporation at Shed No. 15, Godown Nos. 1 and 3 of Jai Mangal Estate on Rakhial Road.

Officials found around three tonnes of expired food products stored at the premises, along with poor cleanliness and unhygienic conditions.

The godown was sealed following the inspection.

According to In-charge Additional Medical Officer of Health Tejas Shah, the expired stock included ghee, children's food products and salt.

Officials suspected that the trader could have been preparing to sell the expired products in bulk, prompting the sealing action.

South Bopal, Jodhpur Units Also Sealed

The AMC also sealed Harihar Kathiyawadi in the South Bopal-Sarkhej area after an earlier paneer sample from the unit was declared unverified.

J.B. Dairy and Parlour in Jivraj Park, Jodhpur, was also sealed after the report of a previously collected ghee sample was declared unverified.

Strict Action Over Food Safety Violations

The AMC Health and Food Department said inspections of food businesses across Ahmedabad would continue.

Officials said units operating without an FSSAI licence or violating food safety requirements could face action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act.

The civic body said the drive is aimed at preventing the sale of unsafe food and protecting public health.
