17-year-old dies by jumping into Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad

A 17-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the Sabarmati river near Gujari Bazaar on the Ahmedabad Riverfront on Thursday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ajim, 17. According to officials, he jumped into the river near the Gujari Bazaar stretch of the Riverfront.

After receiving information about the incident, a team from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and launched a search and rescue operation. The boy was pulled out of the river but was declared dead.

Police conducted an inquest and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Officials said efforts are underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident and to trace and inform the victim’s family. Further investigation is underway.
