The Gujarat State Monitoring Cell (SMC) recovered liquor and other property worth over ₹1.09 crore in two separate prohibition raids across the state.

Beer Consignment Seized on NH-48 in Valsad

The Gujarat Police's SMC seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth over ₹9.26 lakh during a prohibition raid near Kundi Bridge on National Highway 48 in Valsad district, officials said.

The raid was carried out by a team led by Police Inspector B P Desai near Dungri. Police recovered 87 cartons containing 3,025 bottles of Indian-made beer. Including the vehicle used for transportation, the total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹19.36 lakh.

Police arrested Ilesh alias Iliyo Patel, a resident of Kocharwa in Vapi taluka, and Kapil alias Sonu Patel of Motiwada in Pardi taluka, who were allegedly transporting the liquor.

An FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act at Dungri Police Station. Police also named four absconding accused, including the alleged supplier and the person who allegedly ordered the liquor consignment.

Second Raid in Mehsana Nets Nearly ₹90 Lakh Worth of Liquor

In a separate operation, the SMC intercepted another vehicle near Vidaj village in Mehsana's Kadi taluka.

Police recovered 1,077 cartons containing 25,858 bottles of Indian-made beer worth ₹59.73 lakh. Including the vehicle and other seized property, the total value of the recovery stood at ₹89.95 lakh.

Hemaram Jat, a resident of Barmer district in Rajasthan, was arrested for allegedly transporting the consignment.

Police registered a prohibition case at Kadi Police Station against eight accused, including seven who are yet to be arrested. Investigators identified Ramesh Likharam Jat of Barmer as the alleged main accused behind the consignment, while Vijay Jat allegedly facilitated the transportation.

Over ₹1.09 Crore Worth of Property Recovered

Combined, the two raids resulted in the seizure of liquor worth nearly ₹69 lakh and total property valued at more than ₹1.09 crore.

The SMC said the operations were conducted as part of Gujarat Police's intensified crackdown on illegal liquor transportation following directions from Director General of Police G S  Malik.

Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining accused and identify the wider network involved in the supply and transportation of prohibited liquor.
