Maharashtra Patient Dies by hanging in Valsad Civil Hospital Dressing Room

A 49-year-old diabetic patient from Maharashtra died by suicide inside the dressing room of Valsad Civil Hospital on Tuesday night, triggering severe panic and raising sharp questions over facility security.

The deceased, identified as Rakesh Baban Borge from Kevla Road, Maharashtra, had been admitted to the civil hospital a week ago due to severe complications from long-standing diabetes, which had heavily impacted his legs. Police suspect the acute physical distress and accompanying mental strain led him to take the extreme step.

Borge entered the ward’s dressing room late Tuesday evening and tied a bedsheet to a fire sprinkler unit mounted on the ceiling to hang himself.

The incident came to light when a hospital staff member walked into the dressing room and discovered Borge's body, immediately alerting senior administrators and on-duty doctors. Police arrived shortly after, took possession of the body, and dispatched it for a post-mortem examination.

Security Lapses Under Scrutiny

The tragic death has cast a spotlight on the hospital's administrative vigilance and internal security protocols.

Despite the dressing room being situated in a high-traffic zone—frequently accessed by doctors, nursing staff, and ward attendants—a patient managed to slip inside unnoticed, lock or occupy the space, and end his life without triggering any immediate alarm.

Police have launched an enquiry to establish the exact sequence of events, while hospital authorities face growing scrutiny over staff attentiveness in patient wards.
