Janmashtami Matki Phod Event Dispute Turns Violent, Six Students Injured At Hostel in Valsad

A clash broke out at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Boys’ Hostel in Dharampur, Valsad, late Thursday night after a dispute during a Janmashtami Matki Phod programme allegedly escalated into an attack on hostel students. Police have registered a case against 16 named accused and others, while six injured students were taken to Dharampur State Hospital.

Dispute During Matki Phod Event Preceded Attack

According to the police complaint, an argument took place between hostel students and youths from outside during a Matki Phod event organised at Vanraj College for Janmashtami.

Police had reached the venue at the time and brought the situation under control. However, the complaint alleges that the dispute later led to plans to target the hostel students.

At around 9:30 pm on Thursday, a group allegedly entered the hostel lobby while students were studying in their rooms.

Students Allegedly Attacked With Weapons

The group allegedly included 16 named individuals, including Manan Patel, Jaydeep Pawar, Raj Kharwal, Prem Mahala and Harshil Bhisara, along with unidentified persons.

According to the complaint, those who entered the hostel were carrying iron pipes, wooden sticks, cricket stumps and metal bracelets. They allegedly launched a sudden attack on the students.

Students who tried to intervene were also injured in the clash.

Vinaybhai Gamit, Umeshbhai Vagha, Niteshbhai Bhoya, Samelbhai Jadav, Mehulbhai Raut and Amulbhai Kotiya suffered serious injuries to their heads and other parts of the body.

Police Begin Investigation

The incident created panic at the hostel, prompting police officers, including senior officials, to rush to the spot after receiving information.

Dharampur police have registered a case under various sections against the named accused and other unidentified members of the group. Police are now investigating the incident and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.

Students Allege ABVP Involvement

The injured students have alleged that leaders and members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were involved in the attack.

The allegations have been included in the ongoing investigation, and police are examining the claims as part of the case.
