Even In Death, Families Face Agony As Floods Cut Off Valsad Crematorium

The devastating floods that disrupted life across Valsad have left grieving families facing additional hardship, with a washed-out road to the Chhipwad crematorium making it difficult to transport bodies for last rites.

The approach road to the Chhipwad underpass and the crematorium was washed away following heavy flooding, forcing authorities to close the route. As a result, families mourning the loss of loved ones have had to take a longer route to the Tithal crematorium to perform the final rites.

More Than 25 Bodies Cremated At Tithal

Since July 23, more than 25 bodies have reportedly been cremated at the Tithal crematorium. Under normal circumstances, the last rites would have been performed at the Chhipwad crematorium, but the damaged road has forced bereaved families to change the venue.

The closure has also affected regular traffic, leaving motorists and local residents struggling to access the area.

Floods Cause Widespread Damage

Valsad recently witnessed one of its worst flood situations since 1968, leaving several parts of the city severely affected. Homes were damaged, families were displaced and several roads and bridges suffered extensive damage.

The damage to the Chhipwad underpass route has compounded the difficulties faced by residents, particularly families who need to reach the crematorium during an already distressing time.

Locals Seek Urgent Repairs

Residents and local leaders have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to repair the washed-out road and restore access to the Chhipwad crematorium.

They have also called for essential services to be given priority during the post-flood recovery, saying families should not be forced to endure additional hardship while carrying out sensitive and necessary duties such as conducting the last rites of their loved ones.
