70-Year-Old Woman Held Hostage, Robbers Flee With 6 Tolas of Gold in Vapi

Two robbers allegedly held a 70-year-old woman hostage at her bungalow in Vapi’s Dungri Faliya early Wednesday and fled with six tolas of gold jewellery.

The woman was heating water on a stove at the rear of the bungalow when the accused allegedly approached her, threatened her and tied her hands and feet before taking the jewellery she was wearing.

Woman Tied Up During Early-Morning Robbery

According to preliminary information, the woman, the mother of labour contractor Mahesh Shukkarbhai Patel, had woken up early and gone to the back of the bungalow to heat water.

The two men allegedly approached her from the rear. Before she could raise an alarm, they reportedly dragged her a short distance, tied her hands and feet and took the gold jewellery she was wearing.

The robbers then fled from the area.

After the woman raised an alarm, Mahesh Patel and other family members rushed to the spot. The incident drew local residents to the area and caused a stir in Dungri Faliya.

Suspects Allegedly Approached Through Mud

Police said the suspects may have reached the rear of the bungalow by walking through muddy ground.

While allegedly leaving the area along Talav Road, the two men were reportedly questioned by a person out for a morning walk after he found their appearance suspicious.

The men allegedly told him that they had become muddy before continuing on their way.

CCTV Footage Checked By Police

Following the robbery, Dungra police examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify the suspects and establish their movements.

However, cameras installed at the bungalow were positioned towards the front, while the robbery reportedly took place at the rear.

Police have registered a robbery case and launched a further investigation into the incident.
