Surendranagar Tarnetar Fair: ‘Well Of Death’ Viewing Stand Collapses, 4-5 People Suffer Minor Injuries

A viewing stand at the popular ‘Well of Death’ attraction collapsed during the ongoing Tarnetar fair in Surendranagar district on Monday, triggering panic among visitors. Four to five people passing by the structure sustained minor injuries, officials said.

The incident took place at the historic fair held near the Trinetreshwar Mahadev Temple in Thangadh taluka. The fair began on September 14, 2026, on Bhadrava Sud Trij and has attracted large crowds, including visitors from abroad.

According to the information available, the front portion of the viewing stand suddenly gave way after an iron angle attached to the stage buckled. The collapse caused panic among people gathered near the attraction.

However, alert visitors immediately stepped in and held up the iron angle, preventing the structure from collapsing further. Their prompt action helped avert a potentially serious accident and ensured that there was no loss of life.

The administration has deployed more than 2,500 police personnel and a medical team comprising over 100 doctors and staff members at the fair to manage the large crowds and respond to emergencies.

The Tarnetar fair is one of Gujarat's prominent traditional fairs and is known for its blend of religious traditions, folk culture and entertainment.
