Heavy Rains: Nayaka Dam Reaches Full Capacity in Surendranagar; Alert Issued for Riverside Villages

With heavy rainfall continuing across parts of Gujarat, the Surendranagar district administration has issued a high alert for residents living along riverbeds and in low-lying areas after the Nayaka Dam reached 100 per cent of its storage capacity.

Alert for Riverside Villages

Authorities have urged residents of vulnerable villages, including Gautamgarh, Kukda, Godavari and Shekhpar, to stay away from riverbeds and avoid venturing into flood-prone areas.
People living in these villages have also been advised to immediately shift their belongings and livestock to safer, higher ground to minimise the risk of damage in case of rising water levels.

Water Released From Khambhad Irrigation Scheme

In neighbouring Botad district, officials released 1,730 cusecs of water from the Khambhad Irrigation Scheme after opening one dam gate by 45 cm to regulate the increasing water level.
Following the release, the Botad district administration issued a precautionary advisory for residents of Khambhad, Bela, Kundal, Timbla, Barwala, Khamidana, Juna Nawada, Nava Nawada and Vadhela villages.

Administration Urges Caution

Officials have appealed to residents to remain alert, avoid rivers and other water bodies, refrain from risky activities and ignore rumours. Citizens have been advised to rely only on official government updates and follow instructions issued by the district administration to ensure their safety.
